Electric Batteries to Boost Lithium Demand

Electric batteries are expected to be a primary driver of growth in lithium demand over the next decade, according to Galaxy Resources.

In 2009 batteries accounted for 24 per cent of lithium demand and were the second largest market after ceramic glass at 31 per cent.

Over the next nine years, annual demand is expected to rise significantly to US$13 billion. Ebikes are expected to be next big driver of demand, followed by starter batteries, energy storage and then electric vehicles towards the end of the decade. (ASX: GXY)
