Market Validation Program Grants

Three environmental companies have received grants for feasibility studies under the Victorian Government's Smart SMEs Market Validation Program.

"The Smart SMEs Market Validation Program is a $28 million competitive grants program that assists small and medium businesses develop innovative products, processes and services that meet the future technology needs of Victorian Government agencies, and which have potential to find wider markets for participating businesses," said minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business, Louise Asher.

In this round, 12 projects each received $100,000 to develop innovative solutions to identified problems.

Technology company Enviro Stream Solutions received funding to investigate a stormwater treatment device for Yarra Valley Water. The project aims to remove toxins from stormwater to an acceptable level for non-drinking household purposes such as garden use, toilet flushing and laundry.

The passive stormwater treatment project involves stormwater harvesting, nanoparticles, photocatalysts, and pathogen removal.

Earth Systems received a grant for the beneficial re-use of biosolids. It will work with Melbourne Water to investigate sustainable and beneficial uses of biosolids including recovery of valuable products, reduced volumes of waste, reduced operational costs through on-site energy generation and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The project involves resource recovery, biogas, syngas, bio-synthetic natural gas, and renewable electricity.

Algae Enterprises received a grant for an algae biomass to biogas project. Algae Enterprises will work with Melbourne Water to investigate the production of biogas from algae biomass grown in wastewater for renewable energy generation. The project involves energy conversion, microalgae, renewable electricity, and resource recovery.
