Funding for WA Innovators

Successful applicants under Round 2 of the WA Innovation Vouchers Program will receive up to $20,000 each to engage professional skills and services to help turn innovative ideas into a commercial reality.

"The Innovation Vouchers Program aims to assist WA-based small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to achieve success on their path to commercialization," said WA Science and Innovation minister John Day.

The money can be used to help fund research and development, product development, technology transfer, intellectual property and commercialization support services.

The Minister said the types of innovations being developed in Perth are diverse and of a high calibre and have the potential to deliver significant benefits.

Round 2 follows the success of the first round in which 13 businesses secured nearly $245,000 in funding.

"The Department of Commerce was inundated with applications for the first round of the Innovation Vouchers Program which I believe indicates a necessity for a program such as this," said the minister.

Among Round 1 winners were two environmental companies: Marine Easy-Clean Pty Ltd with The Water Cleanser, and Shawtec Pty Ltd for the analysis of carbon and hydrocarbons from waste tyres.

Second round applications closed on 2 March and the successful applicants will be announced in April.

The Innovation Vouchers Program is administered by the Department of Commerce under the Western Australian Innovation Development Schemes
